Haskell is the 2018 recipient of the prestigious All-Star Community Award.  This Award recognizes a community in our region that went beyond the level of basic achievement into areas of specific accomplishments that serve as models for other TMCN communities to emulate. Over the past several years, the community has been extremely action in beautification, leadership development and cleanup efforts. Volunteers have rallied to revive their small community and have made great strides in keeping the Haskell spirit alive. Their efforts have paid off through recognition by Keep Texas Beautiful the past two years. Several significant projects and programs have played a significant role in Haskell’s success. The first of these programs in the Knox-Haskell Leadership Program which is now in its fifth year and continues to turn out new leaders and volunteers who end up plugged into various community and volunteer groups. The second program is the Storefront Grant Program which allows local businesses to access funding for facades, signage, paint, windows, doors, etc. The third project involved the renovation of a prominent downtown building through the partnership of the Development Corporation of Haskell and the local business. Another project involved the partnership between Haskell’s graduating class and the city to fund a new digital sign to keep citizens informed of local events and activities. And lastly, the community has continued their efforts in beautification through a Yard of the Month Program, adoption of a 2 mile-stretch of at the intersection of highways 277 and 380, yearly clean-up events and free dumping opportunities resulting in removing over 6 tons of trash throughout the community.
