Menard is the 2016 recipient of the prestigious All Star Community Award.  This Award recognizes a community in our region that went beyond the level of basic achievement into areas of specific accomplishments that serve as models for other TMCN communities to emulate. Through a series of meetings engaging diverse interest groups in the community, Menard set in a number of goals including increased retail establishments, expanding the existing youth center, create a farmers market, upgrade sidewalks around town and establish a city playground. While many of these goals have been completed or are in progress, the project that has brought the most pride and benefited so many of the working families is the continued efforts to expand the Youth Recreational Building. Lots of sweat, determination and dedication from the entire community has provided a safe, positive environment for the youth of the community. The Youth Recreational Building houses “The Hive” – an afterschool program for youth ages 6-18 which in 2010 received their official charter of the Boys and Girls Club of America.  In 2014, work began on an adjacent building and in 2015 was as a Teen Center hosting dances and movie nights and in the process encouraging supportive relationships, high expectations and recognition of achievements. One mother spoke for many saying that the love and care provided by the youth center staff provides tremendous peace of mind.  Other noteworthy nominations included the communities of Bronte and Strawn.
